Avery Independent School District was recently ranked first over all other public schools in Region 8 after receiving an A rating by the Texas Education Agency.
Avery ISD Superintendent, Debbie Della Rocco, said, “The Texas Education Agency sets the standards of what we have to reach and they tell us that will count towards each year’s assessment. In the end they assign a rating to all public schools in the state.” According to the rating given by the Texas Education Agency, Avery ISD earned Distinction Designations for mathematics, science, comparative academic growth and postsecondary readiness.
“When I first came to Avery ISD, in July of 2017, we were not even a B rated school,” said Della Rocco. “We started working on goal setting and targeting specific skills of students and we were able to raise our elementary school to the A level and our high school was only missing the mark by a few points.”
