Pleasant Hills 4-H Club, a newly chartered club in New Boston is hosting their first meeting on October 9th at Pleasant Hills Missionary Baptist Church in New Boston. Club leader, Faith Ellis, said “Youth Motivational Speaker Jiles Clark will speak at the meeting as a way to inspire our kids through hearing his story to do more and be more.” “Jiles is 14 years old and has written three books about motivating youth to not give up and to keep going,” said Ellis. “Clark has become a motivational speaker.”
“We thought it would be so neat to bring him here for the kids in our community to see somebody 14 that’s written three books and just to hear his story,” said Ellis.
Ellis says Pleasant Hills Missionary Baptist Church wanted to find a new way to provide for and reach out to youth in the community. “The church is around 150 years old and was founded by some of my husband’s family,” said Ellis. “The congregation has gotten small so they started looking for some non-traditional ways to reach youth.” “My children were very involved with 4-H so i thought, why don’t we start a club here,” said Ellis. “I took the idea to our pastor and the board and they thought it was a really good idea.”
