Local churches disaffiliate from United Methodist Church

Two local churches joined a total of 294 formerly United Methodist Churches that voted to disaffiliate from the UMC. Congregations from both Tapp Methodist and Red Bayou Methodist churches went through the disaffiliation process in the last few months, and the process was finalized at a special session of the Texas Annual Conference held on December 3, 2022. month.

Pastors from both local churches weighed in on the disaffiliation of their churches. John Barfield, pastor at Red Bayou Methodist Church, gave the following statement.

“Thoughts about disaffiliation The United Methodist Church The Christian Church from its beginning has had differences about Christology and theology in general. Thus the great Reformation, led by Martin Luther and others. Later other movements took place. The Methodist movement began in England by Reverend John Wesley. It’s emphasis was and is, salvation by faith in God’s grace. Wesley charged the Methodists to ‘spread scriptural holiness throughout the land.’
