City of DeKalb welcomes new Judge

The City of DeKalb unanimously voted to hire, and swore in the Honorable L.D. Williamson as the new city judge at their regular scheduled city council meeting last Tuesday night. Judge Williamson served two terms as Red River County Judge, and is the president of the executive board of the Arkansas- Texas Council of Governments (ATCOG) and, according to Councilman David Meadows, is “very qualified for the position.”

JSG of Atlanta, Texas was hired as the contractor for the HOME Program, with a low bid of$124,800 per home to build at 112 W. Elliott Land, 540 MLK Drive, 841 MLK Drive, and 214 West Street. Construction for each project is expected to take approximately six months.

Resolution 2023-001 was passed unanimously, allowing a representative for the city to seek funding for renovations on the DeKalb Senior Apartments. Built in 1992, the apartments provide low cost housing to seniors and consists of 16 units. The funding is expected to come in the form of Affordable Housing Tax Credits.
