Dianna Melton’s legacy in Bowie County lives on

With the Bowie County Special Olympics coming in April, and it’s rebranding to the Dianna Melton Relays, we wanted to remember the life of the lady who was devoted to them and to the people of Bowie County.

Bowie County said goodbye in 2019 to one of the most influential educators of our time, Dianna Davidson Melton. She passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 after a threeyear battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Dianna had a teaching career that spanned over a half century, beginning at Hooks ISD as a junior high social studies teacher and choir director. However, several years later, she found her true calling when she began working with special education students.
