That First Step

A couple of years ago I surprised my husband with a special birthday present. It was something he had talked about hie whole life and something on his bucket list – skydiving!

I took him to the airport to meet his instructor, get his “training” and get suited up. He was as excited as a three-year-old seeing Santa for the first time. Once the “training” was over, we drove to the runway so he could board the little Cessna. The plane took off, and, with binoculars in hand, I started searching the skies.

About 15 minutes later I saw a tiny parachute gently floating to the ground. Yes, he and his instructor were still strapped together (thank goodness), and they landed with a slight thud. The smile on his face was indescribable. I asked him if everything went well, to which he replied, “that first step was a doozy!” Well, I bet it was.
