The City of DeKalb leaders have passed a new city ordinance that is aimed to curb the number of sub-standard homes within the city limits.
At their regular council meeting last Tuesday night, city leaders voted to pass Ordinance No. 2023-016, which is titled, “An Ordinance requiring renters and lessees to obtain a certificate of occupancy from the City of DeKalb prior to initiating or changing utility service, and declaring an effective date.”
The ordinance goes on to state that it pertains to property that is being rented or leased which is not in compliance with city code, and that the city desires to ensure that property being rented and leased is in compliance with city code.
