At last week’s annual meeting of the Ag Teachers Association conference in Dallas, longtime Bowie County Ag teacher and youth advocate Doug Meadows was inducted in the Ag Teachers Hall of Fame.
Meadows retired from the Ag teaching profession in 1994 after a successful 38-year career, but his impact and influence on area Ag students and activities continues to this day. Over the course of his 38 years as a teacher, Meadows had a positive impact on thousands of students that passed through his classroom as well as the communities in which he taught.
His son, current Ag teacher at Simms ISD, Michael Meadows, penned the nomination letter that garnered his father’s admission into the Hall of Fame. In that letter he states, “While employed both at Redwater ISD and Simms ISD, Mr. Meadows led a well-rounded program providing students with opportunities to develop through both the classroom and FFA activities. By utilizing the adult education program through the agricultural extension service, he also helped educate adults in both commute nities in which he taught by bringing in specialists in various areas of agriculture and agricultural mechanics to teach short courses at night. He had a passion for agriculture and believed in Agricultural Education.”
