A Bowie County constable will be receiving a requested $6,000 increase after a unanimous decision was reached by the salary grievance committee Thursday.
Constable Chad Ford, precinct 2, addressed the salary grievance committee in response to the denial by the Bowie County Commissioners Court to increase his annual in-county travel allowance for the 2023-2024 budget year from $3,900 to $9,600.
“I get $300 a month for in-county travel. Anything I do to go serve a paper, serve an eviction, go find a kid for truancy court, go back up another agency; that $300 has got to cover all my travel costs. And, as you know … you’re not traveling if you don’t have a vehicle and the county doesn’t give me one,” Ford told the committee.
