As Labor Day approaches, TxDOT is reminding all Texans about the dangers of drunk driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced an increased enforcement period from Aug. 18 to Sept. 4. Texas law enforcement agencies are among those that will increase their efforts to pull over motorists suspected of drunk driving.
In the Atlanta District in 2022, there were 311 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes, resulting in 20 fatalities and 47 serious injuries. Over the 2022 Labor Day holiday in this area, there were six DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes, resulting in one fatality and one serious injury.
In Texarkana in 2022, there were 43 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes, resulting in one fatality and three serious injuries. Over the 2022 Labor Day holiday in Texarkana, there was one DUI-alcohol related traffic crash. “Even a single drink can impair your ability to drive. Alcohol slows your reaction time, makes it harder to properly gauge speed and distance, and impairs your vision,” said Atlanta District Engineer Rebecca Wells. “Driving after drinking is never worth it.”
