Morris Garland Craig, a name synonymous with The Naples Monitor newspaper for 67 years, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, at his home in Naples at the age of 85. Craig was born December 24, 1937, in Douglassville, Texas, to Hardman Craig and Dovie Lee Kennedy Craig.
Craig, as he was known to everyone, said the only two people who ever called him Morris was his mother and his first-grade teacher. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Naples. He owned and operated “The Monitor” newspaper in Naples and devoted his life to Naples, Omaha, and the surrounding communities.
As he often recounted, Craig’s career at The Monitor began his senior year senior in high school working nights as projectionist at the Inez theater in Naples. That’s where then owner of The Monitor, Lee Narrramore, found him one night and asked Craig what he was going to do when he graduated.
