Work is continuing on the seven-year, $37.7 million project to replace bridges over the Sulphur River along State Highway 8 between Douglassville and Maud.
Being replaced with one long bridge are the two bridges crossing Lake Wright Patman between Bowie and Cass Counties. The current structures are 26 feet wide and the new one is 44 feet wide with two 12-foot traffic lanes and 10foot shoulders on each side, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Longview Bridge and Road of Longview received the contract for the project with a bid of $37.7 million. Work began in July of 2019 and is expected to take about seven years, making the completion year 2026.
