The Hooks Hornets obliterated the Dragons from Redwater in what has surely become the newest rivalry of Bowie County. The Hornets managed 76 points, Redwater didn’t find the endzone. Several Hornets produced PlayStation level stat lines as the team gears up for their next opponent, the De Kalb Bears, a game that will surely be for the district title.
Quarterback Ripken Birdwell had a record setting night for the Hornets. Birdwell completed 18 of 21 passes for 382 yards and five touchdowns, no interceptions, while rushing five times for 58 yards and one touchdown. The sophomore totaled 439 yards of offense while also producing eight tackles, four for a loss and a sack. Birdwell tied the school record for touchdown passes in a game and now holds the record for passing yards in a game.
Keyshawn Walls was the leading rusher for the Hornets with 178 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries. Dontravious Coulter followed with five carries for 34 yards.
