Playoff Preview

Three teams remain in the hunt for postseason glory and a state championship this week with the Hooks Hornets challenging the Daingerfield Tigers, the New Boston Lions going up against state-ranked Newton and the James Bowie Pirates facing Deweyville.

For Hooks, the Tigers are a frequent visitor to the postseason brackets and have a history of success. They are 8-3 on the season with a 5-1 district record and are coming over a dominating 48-0 win over New Waverley last week.

That said, they are no match for the 4th ranked Hornets and Hooks will still be playing next week.

Prediction: Hooks 48Daingerfield 27 The James Bowie Pirates are also the favorite as they travel to St. Augustine to face Deweyville this Friday.

The Deweyville squad may be 9-2 on the season, but they barely squeaked by Mt. Enterprise and they simply do not have the tools to handle the ground attack of the Pirates.

Prediction: JB 30 Deweyville 10 The story is a little different for the New Boston Lions.

They are playing well right now, hitting their stride at the right time, but the Newton Eagles are not ranked 5th in the state for no reason.

Their defense has seen four shutouts this season and they put up a lot of points. The Eagles went several rounds deep in the postseason in 2022 and are looking to go farther this year.

Newton knocked the Lions out of the playoffs a year ago, and odds are they will do so again.

Prediction: Lions 20 Eagles 42
