Redwater hurler Addison Bruner took her A game to the hill Thursday night and the Lady Dragons earned an extra innings win over a very tough Mineola Yellowjackets team, coming away with a 2-1 victory in Game One of their Bi-District playoff series.
Bruner allowed just one earned run and scattered six hits while striking out nine Yellowjackets to pace the Lady Dragons to their upset win.
At the plate, the game was in the 10th inning when Thompson slapped a single bringing in what would be the winning run.
Bruner and Barron also aided the Lady Dragon cause with a pair of hits in the game.
Game Two is scheduled for Saturday at noon in Hallsville. Game Three will follow if necessary.
In other action last night, the Hooks Lady Hornets also won the first game of their playoff series with an 8-5 win over Winnsboro.
Senior ace Kinsley Birdwell notched the win for Hooks allowing six hits and five runs (just one earned) while she struck out six.
At the plate the Lady Hornets pummeled the Winnsboro pitching staff for 14 hits, led by Addy Hale who went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
The big inning in the contest came in the 5th inning. After Winnsboro jumped out to a 5-2 lead in their half of the frame, the Lady Hornets answered with six runs of their own to make the score 8-5, where it remained at the game’s final out.
Game Two of the series is scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. in Winnsboro.
In baseball action, the Hooks Hornets and Redwater Dragons are scheduled to play a tie-breaker game tonight to see who gets the fourth spot in district and moves on to the playoffs. The game is set for 6 p.m. at Liberty-Eylau.
