The Bi-District champion Maud Cardinals faced a top ranked Beckville Bearcats squad in the Area round of the 2024 baseball playoffs this past weekend.
The Bearcats had lost only three games all season, and they would prove to be too much for the Cardinals, but the men from Maud did not go down without a fight.
Game One of their series was a battle of the pitchers as Maud’s Rip Thomas tossed seven plus innings and held the powerful Bearcats lineup to just one run on four hits and struck out six. Brock Windham provided the punch at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance and Maud’s lone RBI.
The Bearcats would win the game 2-1 with a walk off double in the bottom of the 10th inning to go up 1-0 in the series. In Game Two, the Bearcats showed their strength and beat the Cardinals 12-2 to end a very good season for Maud’s first year head coach Wace Forga. You can bet that Coach Forga and his Cardinals will be back for another playoff run next season.
