Safety upgrades scheduled for intersections in Bowie, Cass and Marion counties

New safety upgrades are scheduled to be installed at 11 intersections in Bowie, Cass and Marion counties, according to plans awarded in June by the Texas Department of Transportation.

“The nighttime lighting systems to be installed are safety enhancements that will provide LED lighting to increase visibility and awareness of the intersection,” said TxDOT Atlanta District Director of Transportation Operations Christina Trowler.
Some locations will also be transitioned from an overhead flashing beacon to flashing stop signs along with additional warning signs. “The signage upgrade will also increase driver awareness of the approaching intersection,” said Trowler.
Vaca Underground Utilities Inc of Houston was awarded the contract with a low bid of $1,359,816.
Work is expected to begin in September and take about 14 months to complete.

  • Cass County: US 59 at FM 2327
  • Cass County: SH 77 at FM 2791
  • Cass County: FM 125 at FM 251
