Shooting suspect captured

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 5:42 pm New Boston Police Department responded to a shooting call in the 300 block of N. Linsey St. Upon arrival, officers located two victims who were shot.  The victims were identified as Nicholas Webster 19 of Jefferson, Texas who was transported to the hospital and remains hospitalized in critical condition, the second victim Princeton Washington 19 of Linden, Texas was pronounced deceased at the scene.

After an intensive investigation the shooter was identified as 19-year-old Malaki Beckham of New Boston.  Based on evidence and witness information obtained in the investigation New Boston Police obtained an arrest for Malaki on July 7, 2024 who was seen fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

After an intensive manhunt Malaki was located in Clarksville, Texas on July 11, 2024.  New Boston Police with the assistance of the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department, Bowie County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshall’s Task Force, Homeland Security Investigators, NE Texas Auto Theft Task Force, and the Red River County Sheriff’s Department Malaki was taken into custody without incident and transport to the Red River County Jail.
