SHERRY ELLEN RAMSEY

Sherry Ellen Ramsey, 86, of De Kalb, Texas passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024 in a Clarksville, Texas nursing facility. She was born July 14, 1938 to Henry Louis and Irene Roberts Graham.

Sherry was a unique and extraordinary woman with many talents. She was a gifted intuitive. She was inquisitive and curious about life and people and seldom knew a stranger. She was blessed with a circle of friends she loved and held dear. Sherry loved books and was an avid reader and an amateur artist. She was particularly fond of painting animals on rocks. She also loved to sing and especially loved to sing along with the radio turned up loudly to her favorite singer, George Jones. Another favorite pastime was to sit on her porch swing and watch the night sky and then in the early morning, watch a new day begin. Sherry loved plants, gardening and animals. Throughout her life she provided a loving home to countless dogs, cats, goats, chickens, one rescued old horse, and even a oneeyed emu she called Big Bird.

A friend once wrote to her a quote from Hunter S. Thompson: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a ride.’ ”, Sherry took it to heart and did just that!

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Doil Ramsey; one son, Johnny O’Day Wisdom; one daughter, Lori Lea Strand; one great-grandson, James Philip Mitton.

Sherry is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Bruce James of Winston, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, William “Benny” and Bonnie Wisdom of De Kalb, Texas: several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous friends.
