HARLAN EDWARD BARGER

Harlan Edward Barger of New Boston, Texas passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was 78.

Harlan was born July 06, 1946 in Clarksville, Texas to Alvin and Ethie George Barger. He was a retired truck driver for Bowie County. Harlan proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Staff Sargent during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Anissa Marie Barger; and one brother-in-law, Paul McMahon.

Harlan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Laverne Pope Barger; one son and daughter- in-law, Garlan and Caitlin Barger of De Kalb, Texas; one sister, Brenda Skelton of Hooks, Texas; two grandsons, Gabriel Hamilton and Isaiah Hamilton; one granddaughter, Abbigail Barger; two nieces, DeeDee McDowell (Tony) and Katy York (Alex); special nephew, Lincoln Eisley (Amanda); two great nieces, Anola Jordan and Kamryn McDowell; special great nephew, Dakota Eisley; two great nephews, Pablo Leal and Cruz Hernandez; numerous other relatives including in-laws and out-laws.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas with Reverend Harold Dean Lambert and Reverend Sam Yancy officiating.

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
