SAMUEL “SAM” EUGENE REEVES

Samuel “Sam” Eugene Reeves, 80, of De Kalb, Texas passed away on January 30, 2025 at an Atlanta, Texas care facility. He was born on September 14, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to Hughlin and Etta Ballard Reeves.

A devoted educator, Sam dedicated 37 years of shaping young minds at De Kalb ISD. His passion for education and commitment to his students left a lasting impact on many lives.

Sam was a man of deep faith, serving as the minister of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. His leadership and service to the congregation were a reflection of his unwavering devotion to his faith and community. Sam also served as President of De Kalb Kares.Org, always striving to make a difference in the lives of those around him.

Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Sam enjoyed leather working, finding joy in craftsmanship. He was also an avid fisherman who loved the peace and patience the sport required. In 1970 he married the love of his life, Judy Kay Sellars, with whom he built a life filled with love and shared purpose.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy Wayne Reeves; and one daughter Rebecca Dawn Reeves.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; one daughter, Rachel Sims of De Kalb, Texas; two grandchildren, Hannah Sims and Michaela Sims. He is also survived by other relatives, friends, and the countless students he mentored over the years.

Sam’s life was one of service, love, and dedication to education and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, Cremation is under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.

A memorial service to honor his memory will be held at a later date.
