BCSO warns of Bowie County scammers

Citizens of Bowie County, please be advised that there is a known SCAM targeting our local community. An unknown caller using what appears to be a local number is calling citizens and claiming to be a Deputy with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office. The caller then relays an urgent message that requires your immediate attention to avoid arrest.  Although the caller identifies himself as a Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, please be assured that we will never contact you to demand payment to avoid arrest.  This is a SCAM. The local number is being “spoofed” from one of many available smartphone apps and is not real.

THIS IS A SCAM-DO NOT AGREE TO PAY ANYTHING, DO NOT PURCHASE GIFT CARDS, OR AGREE TO MEET IN PERSON. If you receive a call and are convinced that something needs to be done, hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office directly at 903.798.3149. We will gladly answer any concerns you may have. If it is after hours/weekends, please call the non-emergency number at 903.798.3876 and a Bowie County Patrol Supervisor will address your concerns.
