INA CAPITALEEN DUNN

Ina “Cappy” Capitaleen Dunn, beloved aunt, sister, and friend, passed away on April 17, 2025, in Texarkana, Texas, at the age of 80.

Cappy was born on February 15, 1945, in Austin, Texas, to Winford Lee Dunn, Sr. and Ina Margaret Arterbury Dunn. She dedicated her professional life to helping others with a career in mental health and social work, supporting children and families.

Through her work with the Juvenile Detention Center of Dallas, MHMR, foster youth, and as a family counselor, she touched the lives of many. Her selfless care for others extended far beyond her career.

Cappy was a member of DeKalb First United Methodist Church. She had a deep love for travel and found joy and meaning in exploring new places and cultures. Cappy spent time all over Europe, even living in England for a time. She was a lifelong supporter of the arts, from professional performances to PGISD theatre.

Cappy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James “Jimmy” Dunn, and her sister-in-law, Annette Dunn.

She is survived by her brother, Winford Lee Dunn, Jr. of Texarkana, Texas; niece, Ina Margaret Dunn McDowell, and husband Gary; great-nieces, Elizabeth McDowell- Martinez and husband Chris, and April McDowell; great-nephew, Nicholas McDowell, and wife Kathleen; cousins, Sharon Charlton and husband Mickey, and Polly Alexandria; Greg and Lee Davis and their children, Laura Jenkins and her child, along with many more cherished family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

Services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., visitation preceding at 1:30 p.m., at Bates Family Funeral Home in DeKalb, Texas, with Rev. Amanda Stratton officiating. Interment will be at Woodmen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Texarkana Public Library, Main Street Texarkana, or a charity of your choice.
