EMMA RUTH EGGENBURGER

Emma Ruth Eggenburger, 93, of Texarkana TX, passed away peacefully on June 2nd 2025, at Hospice of Texarkana, following a short illness.

She was born in Sevier County, Arkansas, on September 24th, 1931 to Robert and Beulah Corbell.

After 37 years at Red River Army Depot, she retired, only then to become co-owner and Director of Happy Days Child Care Center in New Boston for the next 25 years.

She was a twelve-year member of the Board of Directors, Red River Credit Union, functioning in several capacities during that time. For her entire adult life, and most of her childhood, she was an avid and accomplished musician. In addition to being an active member of FBC New Boston where she served as pianist/organist for many years, she traveled across the country to attend Gospel Singing Conventions (shape note music), making many of these trips in a motor home. No matter where she found herself, she was looking for a piano to play.

She was active in Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Clubs in Hooks (as Charter President), New Boston, and Texarkana (Red River BPW), where she served in various offices on local and District 4 levels. She was an original ‘Women’s Libber’, always working for financial, political, business, and judicial rights for women.

In her spare time, she could be persuaded to join a game of canasta or poker, and was not opposed to spending hours crocheting beautiful afghans which she donated to Cornerstone, a community she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband W.M. (Bill) Eggenburger Jr., son Paul Addington, and her children’s father Doyle R. Addington Sr. As number eleven of a twelve-sibling blended family, she is the last survivor. She was preceded in death by five brothers; Ed, Woodrow, Marlin (Dub), and Gip Corbell, and George Finley; six sisters; Willie May Gentry, Rozelle Mize, Frances Rigby, Helen Polanski Stanley, Pat Gatling, and Mary McDaniel.

Ruth is survived by son Raymond Addington, daughter Stacy Addington Davis, step-son W.M. (Billy) Eggenburger III; grand-daughters Hannah and Emily Addington; grandsons Alan, Andrew, and Matt Addington; Will, Logan, and Caleb Davis; and Jason Eggenburger, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses appreciation to Cornerstone Retirement Community for the friendship, fellowship, and care they’ve shown her over the last 12 years.

Additionally, the family wishes to thank Hospice of Texarkana for their extraordinary care and attention during her final few days with us.

Family and friends are invited to join us for a memorial get-together at Cornerstone Retirement Community on Saturday, June 14th, at 2:00 PM.
