Local Football Squads Advance to the Next Round

New Boston The New Boston Lions are still alive after winning in the first round of the state football playoffs. The Lions defeated Grand Saline with a rushing threat that amassed over 450 yards on the night. Quarterback Xavier Rowden completed 5 of 7 passes for 106 yards while rushing three times, once for a touchdown. Jeremiah Hardeman rushed nine times for 66 yards and a touchdown. Jomar Smith had seven carries for 68 yards and a touchdown. Dontae Thompson had fivecarries for 58 yards and a touchdown. Demetrius McChester had 24 carries for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Lions Special Teams were able to add to the lead with a kickoff return for touchdown by Kaden Hall. The Lions ended the game with a final score of 59-35 and punched their ticket to Round 2 where they will face the 10-1 Newton Eagles on Friday, November 18th, at 7:00PM at Lion Stadium in Henderson, Texas.

Maud The Maud Cardinals eliminated Dawson in week one of the state playoffs. Quarterback Dylan Myrtle completed 2 of 8 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns, one touchdown pass was to Cyrus Palmore, the other to Cason Levette. Myrtle was able to rush for a touchdown as well. The Cardinals ended the game with a final score of 21-14. Maud will face Lovelady in Round 2 on Friday November 18th, in Arp, Texas at 7:00 PM.

DeKalb The DeKalb Bears found themselves in a nail biter when the fourth quarter started to run out in their round one game against Edgewood. Amar Love rushed 16 times for 81 yards and three touchdowns. Kiondre Schlesinger had 14 carries for 66 yards and one touchdown. Conrad Crouch had two receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Crouch also had five tackles, two interceptions (one a 50-yard return for a touchdown), and a 70 yard kickoff return to the 2 yard line. Koby Spurgeon and Kaleb Dooley also had interceptions for the Bears. The game ended with a Defensive stand by the Bears forcing a turnover on downs. The final score was 4240 with DeKalb on top. The Bears travel back to Sulphur Springs to face Daingerfield on Friday November, 18th at 7:00 PM in round 2 of the state playoffs.
