Coming off of a 5-5 overall, and a 3-2 district record, the James Bowie Pirates are looking to make a run at the district title this season leaning on a strong running game and a powerful defense. Second year Coach Shawn Wells says his team will focus on running the slot-T offense and hopes to confuse defenses with a few fakes and option plays sprinkled in.
Defensively Coach Wells and the James Bowie Pirates will run a 4-3-cover 4 with a big front that should be hard to move.
Returning for the Pirates this year is Clayton Hadley senior DE/ OL, who has had two outstanding seasons for the Pirates and is looking forward to his third. Wells says senior RB/LB Dylan Braley, “has really put in lots of work in the weight room since last season and will be a powerful back” for the Pirates. Junior Quarterback Logan Mc-Cullough will return as starter for the Pirates. Wells describes him as, “a great leader for our team that handles the offense well and puts us in good down situations.” Senior RB/ LB John Sabitsana returns this year after an outstanding junior season and is sure to make waves in the district matchups. “There are several young guys that should step up and make some plays this year as well,” Wells explained.
