The Maud Cardinals return to the gridiron in 2022 riding a wave of success after making the playoffs a year ago and ending the season at 8-3 and a spotless 5-0 in district play. These Cardinals, led once again by Head Coach Josh Turner, are expected to repeat as district champions again in 2022, ahead of district foes James Bowie, Clarksville and Linden-Kildare. Coach Turner tells the Tribune that he expects his squad to compete for the district title and see postseason action.
The Cardinals will look to achieve that feat with preseason district defensive MVP linebacker Tristin Lee who had 154 tackles in 2021. Turner’s 4-3 defense will be the name of the game this season, as the offensive unit has lost some key players from a year ago, but fans will see Lee playing both ways and taking snaps in the backfield behind QB Devin Myrtle.
Other key players for the Cardinal hopeful include the versatile Grayson Smith, along with defensive standouts Trentyn Sisson and Micah Bishop. Others include sophomore hopeful Cason Lewis who splits his time between running back and defensive back. Turner will also expect to get help from players like Brock Windham and Rip Thomas, both playing wideout and dback, Cason Leavitt playing both ways as running back and defensive back and Evan Acosta who will take a big role on both the offensive and defensive lines.
