Hornets ready to take on all comers

The Hooks Hornets come into the 2019 season with a chip on their shoulder.  This is a program that is not often overlooked or passed over, but this season it feels that way.  It’s not their fault, when you play in a district with so many compelling stories this season, it would be easy to overlook the Hornets.  The Hornet’s district, 7-3A D1 is going to be the most talked about district in the entire state of Texas.  You have the Atlanta Rabbits, Jefferson Bulldogs, and Mount Vernon Tigers.  All three teams are in the pre-season top 25.  The Rabbits will have the largest team by far, Jefferson might have one of the best running backs in the state in Dee Black, and Mount Vernon has Art Briles.  With all that going on, it’s easy to forget about the rest of the district, and in some of those schools that might be ok, but not in Hooks.

The Hornets under head coach Chris Birdwell will be ready to take on all comers this fall, and on offense, they will be exciting to watch.  The two skilled players to pay attention to this season is Mason Vasquez and Marquiz Estell.  These two players are touchdown making machines.  Vasquez is an old school football player that will punish any defensive player that tries to tackle him.  Estell is pure speed and athleticism.  If he catches the ball in the open field, there won’t be many that can catch him.  Add into that mix a strong offensive line, I think the Hornets will not struggle to put points on the board.
