Putting out the flames of misinformation

Putting out the flames of misinformation

A couple of weeks ago there was an incident in DeKalb that stirred up some controversy and had people flocking to social media.

Assumptions were made, opinions were shared, and the rumor mill was pumping at full speed. All of that while no one knows what really happened out there at that rodeo arena, except those who did it. The truth will come out, but it hasn’t yet.

Now in New Boston the same thing has happened with two sides at odds and the rumor mill of social media churning out opinions faster than grandma could make biscuits. There are definitely two sides to this story, and you can read both of them on Page 1 of this paper, but the thought that occurs to me is that both sides believe their side to be the truth, and both sides believe they are right, which only causes division in a town that doesn’t need it. What both sides also are doing, in my humble opinion, is ignoring what is best for the common good, and the people of New Boston that they supposedly serve. There is not a town on the planet that does not need fire protection. That is a given. Emergency services are a vital service to any community, and without them, the people are the ones who suffer. It seems to me that the best thing that could happen would be for the two sides, all grownups, to have a sit down and work this mess out like grownups and do what is best for the citizenry.
