As I sit here, my fingers tapping on the keyboard, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that has been my life. The sun is setting, casting a warm, golden glow through the window, and a blue jay is fighting for territory at my bird feeder in the yard. And summer is upon us.
I’ve been blessed with many years, each filled with joys and sorrows, triumphs and trials. I’ve seen the world change in ways I could never have imagined since, as a young girl, I was too scared to talk to anyone or make eye contact with them. And who would guess I’d go to the streets and share the gospel with homeless friends and those struggling to find their way? Or that I’d write books?
And through it all, one thing has remained constant: my faith in God, even when life dropped buckets of sorrow on some of my dreams. Often, I’ve had no answers for things that fell in my path—and struggled to make sense of things. Despite the tears and trials, I’ve tried to live my life in a way that honors God, and I’ve strived to be kind, compassionate, and a beacon of His love in a world that so often seems shrouded in darkness. I’ve tried to use the gifts the Lord’s given me to make a difference, to touch the lives of others in some small way.
