This letter is in reference to the upcoming Maud ISD Bond election on May 6, 2023. My name is Pennie Sewell, and I am the owner of Cardinal Academy daycare in Maud. I was born and raised in Maud and attended Maud ISD. As a Maud Alumni, I am proud of the education I received here, and currently have two children enrolled here, a senior and a junior.
Maud ISD recently received an A rating from the TEA Accountability Ratings. The current election is to improve and upgrade the schools’ facilities. If the bond is approved by the voters on May 6, then Maud ISD will build a new cafetorium, and the old cafetorium will be renovated to become the new band hall. If the bond does not pass, Maud ISD will need to redirect educational funds used for instructional programs to fund increased maintenance costs within these facilities.
The cafetorium is not only used for school lunches but also for school plays, concerts, banquets and even family reunions. Therefore, it is a benefit to our entire community. Our current band hall is too small for our growing band. The bond would also allow for improved traffic control and additional parking. The improvements are necessary for the continued growth of the school.
