It was God and a good lure that New Boston native Travis May said helped him take the top prize in the largest amateur bass tournament in Texas.
May was the winner of the biggest bass of the weekend at the KYKX Big Bass Bonanza held May 5-7 at Lake of the Pines. But, he said, the win almost never happened.
“I had heard how big it was so I didn’t want to fish it,” May said of the tournament But after a little persistence and a mishap with his truck, his fishing partner Bobby Joe Higginbotham won out.
