I met D., an inmate, and he’s writing a book in prison, and his words rang true about treasuring the day and the hour and living purposefully. He uses a typewriter and worries about editing versus just getting it written since he’s afraid to use up the ribbons. However, after our latest chat, he’s on his way. The visit with him also encouraged my heart as he spoke about making the most of every moment.
I met D., another inmate whose name begins with the same letter as the man in the first paragraph. He’s my age, serving his sentence. He loved photography in his youth but told me of his life’s distractions and called it a life of sin.
He longed for wisdom and spoke of how he once sat with binoculars and watched cardinals and robins through his apartment window in his youth, a time before his crime. Whenever he sees a red bird or robin, he’s reminded that God has allowed him to fly with hope even while serving his sentence in prison. What a great story to live by!
