The New Boston Police Department is making it easier to find and identify local missing persons with cognitive disabilities.
The NBPD has launched the Take Me Home program which is designed to give law enforcement necessary descriptive information to find adults and children who may be unable to identify themselves. “Every cop has a story of coming in contact with a nonverbal individual and trying to get them home,” said Cpl. Danny French, program coordinator.
The program relies on a database of descriptors of individuals with Down’s syndrome, autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia and deafness among others. The database is secured and only accessible to public safety personnel.
