DOROTHY JO TIDWELL
Dorothy Jo (Hawkins) Tidwell went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 25, 2020 in Texarkana, Texas after 91 years of a life well-lived to the glory of God. She was born December 20, 1928 in Simms, Texas to Janie Winn Hawkins and William David Hawkins. Dorothy, known as Jo by family & friends, graduated from James Bowie High School in 1946 and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1949, after which she enjoyed a nursing career of many years, primarily in New Boston and Texarkana, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Boston, in which she faithfully reared her children. Dorothy Jo was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers- Pat, Charles, and Thomas Hawkins, husband, Hershel B. Tidwell and one son-in-law, Charles Glona.
She is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Judy and Raymond McClung of Wake Village, Texas, Kathy and Robert Teuton of Canyon Lake, Texas, Becky and Tom Coleman of New Boston, Texas, Janice and Mark Goodson of Corinth, Texas, eleven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and one sister- in- law, Frances Fox. Referred to affectionately by her grandchildren as Granny Jo, she loved her family deeply, served them sacrificially, and was sincerely loved in return. Thanks be to God for her life and the legacy she leaves behind.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church, New Boston, Texas with Dr. Ken Cox officiating. Interment will be in Ringwood Cemetery, New Boston under the direction of Bates Rolf Funeral Home. Mrs. Tidwell will lie in state Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the funeral home. There is no set family visitation.
