It’s a family tradition reborn for Bowie County family

It’s a family tradition reborn for Bowie County family

A tradition passed down through generations came back to life this past weekend as Zadie Kay Bates, of DeKalb, showed her heifer for the very first time, and came home with a Grand Chamipn buckle and banner. She showed her Beefmaster heifer Jolene and earned Grand Champion in both show rings.

Zadie Kaye, who was also crowned Little Miss Simms back in April, has showmanship in her blood as her mom, Amanda Bates was a FFA standout during her high school days, and earned many accolades herself in the show ring with her Simbrah heifer.

Zadie Kaye’s grandfather, Michael Meadows, has been an FFA and Ag teacher for 31years and currently serves that role at James Bowie High in Simms.
