The Veterans of Foreign Wars organization (better known as the VFW) is 122 years old and has been around since 1899. This organization is the oldest chartered veterans organization in the United States. It was originally created for the benefit of Spanish War veterans and has served veterans of every war since.. The purpose of the VFW is to speed rehabilitation of the nation's disabled and needy veterans and to assist veterans' widows and orphans and the dependents of needy or disabled veterans.
