Santa Claus is coming to town, and he is coming a little bit early to DeKalb, as the downtown area will turn into a winter wonderland on Saturday, December 14, with a host of holiday activities for all ages.
The afternoon that day will be filled liked Santa’s gift bag with activities ranging from chances to mark names off your Christmas gift list to carolers and a chance to sit on ol’ Kris Kringle’s lap. The day’s events will culminate with a special showing of the holiday favorite, A Christmas Story, at the State Theatre. There will be free popcorn for all the moviegoers and a chance to win a Red Ryder BB gun, just like the one Ralphie hoped for in the classic Christmas tale. But, be careful if you win it, you might shoot your eye out!
David Briggs is organizing the movie showing. He says, “We feel like “A Christmas Story” brings back a lot of Christmas memories for people and to watch it in a historic theatre amplifies that. One hundred percent of everything made goes back to the theatre. We’re looking at buying a fixed projector, new curtains, new motorized screen, etc.”
Only 250 tickets are available for the show at the State Theatre. They will go on sale starting at noon the day of the show. Cost of tickets is by donation. Raffle tickets for the Red Ryder are just $1.00 A winner will be drawn at the end of the movie. You have to be 18 to purchase a raffle ticket.
