“A change is as good as a rest,” the old saying goes, and a DeKalb mother/daughter duo has decided to take one of each. In December of 2018, Hubbard kindergarten teacher announced she was making a change - that after 33 years in the classroom she would be retiring and essentially, taking a rest.
Though according to Karen Davis she had “the best job in Bowie County,” after 33 years of teaching in the same classroom while raising and educating five children of her own, it was time to begin a new chapter. Little did she know at the time, the end of her career would also mark the beginning of the career of her successor - someone who, as it turned out - she didn’t mind passing the torch to at all.
Karen’s youngest daughter, Christina, graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in psychology. She then took a seasonal job working as a stage manager for two different dance companies.
