On May 11, 2019, Lamar County Adopt a Cop will have a very special guest at their annual Lamar County Adopt a Cop 5K & Walk In Their Shoes event in Reno. Cynthia Vetter, the wife of fallen Texas DPS Trooper Randall Vetter, will share her story of how the tragedy she and her son endured led her to make a difference for our men and women of law enforcement, as well as for children of fallen officers.
Trooper Randall Vetter was killed on August 7, 2000, while conducting a traffic stop on I-35 in Kyle, Texas. He was shot by a 72-year-old driver he had stopped for not wearing a seatbelt. Trooper Vetter had served with the Texas Department of Public Safety for six years. At the time of his death, he and Cynthia had an eight month old son. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. He died in prison in 2008.
