The suspect in the 2022 shooting at a DeKalb fast food restaurant pleaded guilty in the 102nd District Court.
Xavier Luke, 26, of New Boston, will serve 15 years in the Texas Department of Corrections for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and 10 years for violating his probation for possession of a controlled substance. His sentences will run concurrent. He will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentence. Luke accepted the plea deal before 102nd District Judge Jeff Addison.
Luke was the lone suspect in the June 2022 shooting of Malacheye Simpson, 20, in the parking lot of Sonic in DeKalb. No official motive has been given for the shooting, officials say there was a fight that occurred between Luke and Simpson and Luke was seen going back to his car where he retrieved a handgun.
