When was the last time you helped someone, just because it was the right thing to do?
It might seem like I am being a bit of a broken record here of late, but the subject of helping folks and simply being kind is one that keeps coming up. Last night I was watching an episode of Yellowstone and there was a scene where the lead character, John Dutton, pulls over to help a young lady and her son with a flat tire. When the lady tells him she has no money to pay him for his help he tells her that where he is from people help each other, just because it is the right thing to do. He didn’t expect anything in return, he didn’t think he would receive some reward for being kind, he stopped to help, just because it is what you do.
There was a day in this country when that kind of scene was the norm. People helped each other… just because. People were nice to each other… just because. There was a day not long ago when you could let your kids run up and down the neighborhood without fear. There was once a day when there were no cell phones or high tech gadgets for people to “check in” with, but we didn’t seem to worry so much. All of that is because there were days when people were just nicer and safety wasn’t such a concern.
