On Friday, September 29, 2023, JC Lee Kirby was arrested in Austin, Texas on Bowie County warrant number B23-01011-F1-TF for the offense of Escape.
Kirby escaped the Bi State Jail earlier this year on July 7 and fled the area. Investigators had solid information that Kirby was in Austin, but his capture remained difficult due to him intentionally blending within a large homeless community.
Back on July 7, at approximately 3:05am, two inmates, Kirby and Wayde Burton Land, escaped from the Bi State Jail. Their escape was discovered during a jail count that morning. A review of surveillance footage confirmed they left the Bi State Building on foot travelling west bound towards Texas Boulevard. Both inmates were wearing street clothes when they escaped the facility.
