Citizens selected to serve on a jury will be receiving a little more compensation thanks to a bill signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott.
House Bill 3474 has increased jury pay to $20 for the first day of service and $58 per day from those selected to serve for a trial. This rate increased from $6 and $40 respectively. The new law affects those summoned for civil and criminal trials as well as grand juries.
The pay increase will be fully funded by the state, said Lori Caraway, Bowie County district clerk.
