Maud man sought by law enforcement

Bowie County law enforcement had a manhunt on their hands over the weekend as a simple warrant service quickly became much more.

It was reported on Saturday that, Texas Game Wardens were assisting Precinct 5 Constable Robbie Caudle with the search for a suspect who fled from a felony warrant service earlier that day. The suspect, identified as Cody Wharton, is wanted for a state jail felony for theft, and was last seen evading authorities on foot along Fannin Street in Maud.

The incident began when law enforcement officials arrived at a residence to execute a felony warrant, but Wharton decided to flee and was able to elude capture by running into a densely wooded area near the residence.
