The DeKalb ISD was proud to announce during a special ceremony the naming of its baseball field in honor of longtime Bear player and coach Joe Anderson.
The district stated that “Joe Anderson Field” pays tribute to an outstanding athlete and mentor whose contributions have enriched our community.
Anderson told the Tribune, “A huge thanks to Donna McDaniel and the DeKalb ISD school board for this honor. The baseball field holds many speart memories for me. I played on it as a teenager with some of my very best friends, including Tommy Reed and Lance Montgomery. Tommy was always my catcher from Little League to college at OBU. I coached several all-state baseball players here. I was able to coach some of my nephews and cousins on this field, but I especially enjoyed getting to coach my own son, Tyler. This field is so special to me and my family because of the memories made here.”
