The first of two duck season splits in Texas’ North Zone got underway November 9. The first split will wind down November 26, followed by a second split that runs December 2 - January 28.

The South Zone first split also ends November 26; the second split runs December 9 - January 28. The regular season runs through January 28 in the High Plains Management Unit.

Kevin Kraai, waterfowl program leader with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, says Texas has more duck hunters than any state in the country. He claims Texas hunters shoot more ducks than the entire Atlantic Flyway and they account for 54 percent of all the ducks shot in the Central Flyway each year.
