Stepping closer to the rail to climb over it, the man held out his gloved hand to help me. I know to some, I’m older (I am) and may appear less stable on my feet than the younger crowd. But I’ve been a stumble-footed gal all my life, so I’ve needed ongoing help with my walk balance and standing. I guess I’m a wobble-bodied person.
So I clasped my fingers with the man, who helped me balance myself and land on two feet. I was pleased to see his kindness, which spoke to my heart too.
We then exchanged names, my asking him his first. Then he followed with wanting to know mine. We chatted for a few moments as we lingered by my car as I’d passed out a few blankets and hand warmers, and he shared his latest struggles with things he needed help climbing over and conquering in life. He’s staying in the woods for now, unsure what to do next.
