The holiday season gets its official start next week as many Texans gather around the table for Thanksgiving dinner. But for the families of the 1,246 people killed last year in Texas by drunk drivers, holiday seasons will never be the same.
Starting Dec. 1, 2022, there were 108 people killed and 229 people seriously injured in just 32 days in DUI-alcohol related crashes across the state. All of these families suffered painful memories that will last a lifetime.
“This time of year is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to celebrate together, but all of that can change in a moment,” said Atlanta District Engineer Rebecca Wells. “Be that driver you want your loved one traveling next to on the road. That’s a driver that is sober and alert.”
