“No Cull” Crappie Fork, Lake ‘O The Pines reminded of special wintertime regulation

Crappie fishermen headed to Lake Fork and Lake O’ the Pines in eastern Texas between now and February 28 are reminded of a special “no cull” regulation that is now in effect on those two impoundments.

From December 1 to February 28, anglers are required to keep every crappie they catch, up to a legal limit of 25 fish, regardless of size. It is illegal to release any crappie on either lake during the three-month period. Both lakes will return to the statewide 25-fish, 10inch rule on March 1.

The special wintertime regulation has been around since 1991. A similar “no cull” limit was put in place for the Texas side of Toledo Bend in 1998, but has since been removed. The year-round daily limit on the Texas/Louisiana border lake is now 25 fish with no minimum length limit.
